Marseille

Well, today was supposed to be Cannes Film Festival day, but due to our guide being a jerk, my roommate Cassidy and I were unable to go. I got up early to catch the bus from La Tour d'Aigues to Aix, but upon arrival, our leader Georges said to me 'oh, you didn't confirm... you'll have to wait to see if there's room.' Well, I have gone on several trips of his, and have never once had to confirm. There were others as well who had not confirmed, and he let everybody on the bus. My roommate had not confirmed either, and he had a place for everybody except for Cassidy and me, although I was there well before everybody else, which I find strange. Anyway, despite missing the Cannes trip, Cassidy and I decided to take advantage of our free day, and made a trip to visit Marseille. The mistral was blowing strong all day, so unfortunately we weren't able to go to the beach, but we walked for hours and explored. We visited the Longchamps Palace, which housed a beautiful fountain, something one would expect to see in Paris rather than in Marseille. We walked down the Canebière, and got a drink at the newly opened Starbucks. It turned out to be a great day, I'll just have to go to Cannes some other time I suppose!
I am moved back in with the Jaspard family, and will start my au pair job again this monday. I am so happy to be back in the countryside, it is truly a breath of fresh air from life in Aix. If it is not too windy tommorrow, I plan to go hiking in the hills behind the family's house, and maybe take a little picnic with the boys... we'll see.
This Thursday I'll be going to Italy, as long as the Iceland volcano doesn't cancel any flights... keep your fingers crossed for me!
That's about all that's been going on... but you can be expecting another blog next weekend, after my Italy trip!!!
