C'est à dire que mon congé de février était troooop amusant!
It was a fun-filled, eventful week long break from school. A lot was accomplished: we explored Marseille, Cassis, Esparron de Verdon, Carnaval de Nice, went out dancing...
Our break started out with Lola and me sitting around doing nothing, watching movies, and relaxing. Upon seeing how lazy and unproductive she and I were being, our friend Charles kidnapped us and took us on a little day-excursion to explore the calanques of Marseille and Cassis. We took the scenic route, and drove along the sea and through the mountains. We stopped at a place between Marseille and Cassis called Point Rouge (... I think that's what it's called anyway) and despite the weather being stormy, it was beautiful. Cassidy's mom was in town all week, so unfortunately she was unable to come along with us for the week. Once in Cassis, we stopped briefly in centre ville, but spent the majority of our time in les calanques. Lola and I were also nearly engulfed by a wave... that would not have been good, but we're alive, tout va bien!
One of the days preceding Cassis and Marseille, Lola and I went out to see a concert at La Mistral, an old, famous nightclub here in Aix. We went with our Swedish friend Jas, and some other French mecs. The concert was great, and the Mistral was packed with people. We were even able to bypass a huge line and got discounted tickets thanks to one of our friend's connections c: Now that I think about it, this was on Valentines Day! Our friend Félix brought Lola and I roses, cookies, and Coca… it turned out to be a pretty happy day despite the fact that Lola and I were both single. We went out to La Mistral a second time with the neighbors boys, Etienne and Benoit and their friends, who live directly below us in the building. We spent a great night dancing into morning.
Another day of break, Charles drove us to Esparron de Verdon, a paradise on earth. Brilliant blue water with cliffs towering above, it was truly picturesque. Charles' grandparents have a summer home there, but are only there 2 months of the year, so the rest of the time it is open for Charles' use. After watching Charles cliff jump into ice cold water and enjoying some unreal scenery, we drove up to Charles’ place. It sits atop a hill, overlooking the gorges, an unbelievable view. It was a day that bordered perfection.
Sunday, our last day before school started back up, I went to Carnaval de Nice with my roommates Lola and Cassidy, Morgan (the Canadian au pair for the Jaspards), and Laura (another girl from my school). It was an experience for sure. Surprisingly upon our arrival in Nice it was sunny! We walked around the centre ville of Nice for a few hours before the Carnaval started. We passed some time on the beachfront, something that I miss immensely being away from California. Carnaval itself was insanity – confetti, silly string, and costumes galore. I fit right in with the rest of the crowd wearing my cat-eye contacts… pretty amusing. The floats were bizarre, but definitely a sight. It was a great end to break c:
