Fête de la Musique / Boating

The weather is at its finest, everything’s green, and life couldn’t get much better here in la belle France. To kick off the summer season, the kids and I drove to Aix for La Fête de la Musique, which takes place in all France on June 21 to celebrate the changing of seasons. Bands and individuals gather in the streets, and play music of all genres… of course some are more musical and entertaining than others. There is an incredible atmosphere created. A majority of the bands played along the main street in Aix – Le Cours Mirabeau. At the top of the street, a larger stage was set up for the more established bands to play. We watched the first 2 bands on the big stage – one from somewhere in England which played hard rock, and the second was from Amsterdam and rapped (in Dutch...).
This weekend we took the family’s boat out for the first ‘promenade en bateau’ of the season. It was splendid – wind in the hair, swimming in the salty Mediterranean, and on our way back to le vieux port the water turned a ruby red from the sunset over Marseille. It was like nothing I have seen before. We ate at a little restaurant in Le Port de Goudes, between Marseille and Cassis, where I ate the best fish I have ever tasted in my life. Before grilling the fish, they brought it over – the entire fish, freshly caught from the sea – for us to give the ‘go ahead’ to grill.
Today I took advantage of this beautiful weather and hiked to Grambois. I found a little niche that overlooked the hills and vineyards of Le Luberon, and sat for hours reading and admiring the landscape.
That’s about all that’s new… the kids will be finished with school at the end of the week, so I should have more blogs coming of our Summer adventures in the weeks to come =)
Hope you all are having a fabulous Summer!
